Where is the world’s biggest Uniqlo?

There are over 800 Uniqlo stores in Japan as of March 2024. Uniqlo is one of the biggest fashion store chains in Japan with the biggest Japan Uniqlo being Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza – it is also the biggest Uniqlo in the world!

Ginza is renowned for its fine fashion and is Tokyo’s version of Oxford Circus in London or Fifth Avenue in New York. Ginza is one of the best places for shopping in the capital and full of high end retail stores and luxury goods.

If you plan to visit Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza, be sure to check our the nearby shopping department stores – the biggest and best malls to visit whilst in Ginza include the modern Tokyu Plaza Ginza (opened in 2016 with restaurants galore and an incredible rooftop garden) plus Ginza Six.

The Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza experience

The unique experience of visiting Uniqlo’s best Tokyo store, Uniqlo Ginza, begins as soon as you walk through the door. Level 1’s LifeWear Square catches your eye immediately as items of Uniqlo clothing and fashion swing or spin around (you have to see it to believe it).

To navigate the 12 storey Uniqlo in Tokyo Ginza, there are escalators between each floor on an elevator / lift tucked away on the right-hand side (as you enter) at the back of the store – given there are 12 floors and limited lifts, be prepared to wait in line for the elevators during peak periods.

Incidentally, for a cool view of Uniqlo Ginza from across the street (so you can see all 12 storeys in their full glory), head to the rooftop of Ginza Six shopping centre across the street.

12 Floors of Fashion

Yep, as you’d expect from Japan’s and the world’s biggest Uniqlo, there are a dozen different floors and levels to explore with other fun features like a Uniqlo coffee shop, flower shop and customisable clothing.

Unless you are visiting Tokyo Uniqlo Ginza for something very specific (like the Uniqlo Ginza collaboration section which is unique to this store), we’d recommend working your way upwards from level 1 to level 12, before rewarding yourself with a Uniqlo coffee on the top floor, as a ‘reward’ after all that retail therapy!

The best things to buy and do at Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza

Allow at least a couple of hours to visit this unique store, especially if you are planning a caffeine pit-stop or customising your own bag or T-Shirt in UTme!

Some of the best floors to visit at Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza include:

Uniqlo Coffee – Level 12

Although Uniqlo coffee shops are becoming increasingly popular (especially in Japan), the very first Uniqlo Coffee Shop was at this Tokyo Ginza store, opened in summer 2021 after the whole store was revamped.

At Uniqlo’s first-ever cafe, you can buy hot or cold Uniqlo original blend coffee and lattes here (plus matcha products). Best of all, there is a small seating area at the coffee shop, looking out over Ginza’s skyline, towards Ginza Six.

Prices are reasonable too with Uniqlo Coffees starting from around the 200 Yen mark.

Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza LifeWear Square Level 1 – Immersive Installations

One of the reasons Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza has proved so popular both in person and online via social media is the first floor Ginza LifeWear Square level.

Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza LifeWear Square

Almost like an immersive event in Tokyo or moving museum of merchandise, here you’ll see a different ‘spin’ on Uniqlo’s usual clothing ranges – like literally, there are spinning Uniqlo sock displays, hanging hoodies and swinging Uniqlo jackets encased behind a giant perspex window.

The Uniqlo Ginza ground floor LifeWear Square Level is almost like a modern art museum – not quite Tokyo TeamLabs but a fun fashion frenzy that captures your imagination.

My Uniqlo &  UT Me – Uniqlo customisable T-shirts and bags – Level 5

UT Me! So says Uniqlo and its custom corner on its fifth floor. This is a great opportunity to create your own personalised Uniqlo clothing items such as T-shirts or tote-bags.

Using a tablet, you can add your own graphics and characters to your chosen clothing item and then they’ll make or print it whilst you wait.

My Uniqlo also allows you to add epic embroidered items emblazoned on your bags and tops – ‘sew’ cool!

Demand can be high though so the wait-time can be quite long for UT Me customisable clothing at Ginza Uniqlo Tokyo (try Uniqlo Tokyo Asakusa for quicker customisable times and shorter queues).

Uniqlo Ginza Collaboration – 2nd Floor

To celebrate the transformation and reopening of the Uniqlo Tokyo Ginza store in 2021, a new Uniqlo Ginza Collaboration section was added to the store.

This is one of the best areas to browse as you’ll instantly start to recognise logos and brands from nearby Ginza restaurants and bars you might have been to in the local area.

There are dozens of local Uniqlo Ginza collaborations  – so much so there is even a Tokyo map of Ginza showing all the restaurant and bar locations.

From Ginza Lion beer hall (Japan’s oldest beer-hall) to Kyukyodo calligraphy store, the world renowned Kabukiza Theatre down the road to Ginza Kimuraya (the oldest bakery in Japan), there are Uniqlo Ginza collaborations in t-shirt and tote bag form.

You can even buy unique items from the stores and restaurants themselves in Uniqlo Ginza (but alas for us, there is no Ginza Lion beer to buy)!

Other things to buy

Ready to shop ‘til you drop. Uniqlo is famous for many fine fashion items and we cannot survive without our Uniqlo nylon shoulder bags (probably).

As well as the Ginza collaborations and huge graphic T-shirt range, be sure to check out Uniqlo’s lightweight jackets (ideal for the cold Tokyo winters), plus the highly recommended Uniqlo Heat-tech thermals range.

Uniqlo TaxFree Shopping

Uniqlo Ginza in Tokyo is very much geared towards tourist shopping and tax free purchases.

Not only do many of the Uniqlo Ginza staff speak English (many employees are overseas students studying in Tokyo), but there is a dedicated Uniqlo Tax Free shopping counter to claim back your tax.

Just remember to bring your passport when you make your Uniqlo purchases (which you should be carrying with you anyway).
