Tokyo Christmas Market 2026 – Japan’s Biggest Christmas Market

The 2026 Tokyo Christmas Market (東京クリスマスマーケット) is hopefully returning this year, with not one but two sites.

Located at Meiji Jingu Gaien, the 2026 Tokyo Christmas Market will hopefully open in mid November with over 30 festive food and drink vendors and around 20 Christmas gift stalls.

And there is a second Tokyo Christmas Market site at Shiba Park which hopefully will open from early December 2025.

Tokyo Christmas Market 2026 – photos and what to expect

A whole host of food stalls, Christmas gifts, bars and live entertainment, this is Japan’s BIGGEST Christmas market and a lot of festive fun.

We visited the Tokyo Christmas Market on the second night of opening in late November 2024 – we arrived one weekday afternoon at around 4pm when it was raining hard so it was very quiet.

Having visited previously a few years ago a couple of days before Christmas, we can confirm it gets VERY busy on weekends and towards Christmas Day itself – so if you don’t like crowds, try to visit early on.

If you’ve bought your Tokyo Christmas Market tickets in advance, you just show your email QR code via one of the two main entrance gates and are given a wristband plus a Christmas goodie bag – this contains a site map, market information plus best of all, your Tokyo Christmas Market mug.

The mug comes in handy at the hot chocolate and mulled wine stalls plus is a cute Christmas souvenir and lasting reminder of your Christmas in Japan!

There are lots of photo spots and selfie opportunities too including a big Tokyo Christmas Market sign with white light-bulbs by the main entrance.

We also spotted a wreath making competition plus some Christmas workshops you can book onto like making your own snow globe.

Tokyo Market Christmas Pyramid

Brand new last year, Tokyo Christmas Market unveiled a new Christmas Pyramid in the center of Meiji Jingu Gaien – the pyramid rotates with lots of characters across its various levels and it looks beautifully illuminated at night.

Organisers have also confirmed the new Shiba Park Tokyo Christmas Market will have a large Christmas pyramid as a centerpiece in 2025 too.

In previous years, the Tokyo Christmas Market pyramid told the story of the birth of Christ but the new version now contains fairytale characters like Alice in Wonderland and Hansel & Gretel.

This is a popular photo spot but just to mention the carpeting around here is quite unstable and we saw an old lady fall over here during our visit – so be careful. In fact, the site is very uneven so we hope the organizers rectify this.

Food and drink at Tokyo Christmas Market

There are usually over 30 different food and drink stalls at Tokyo Christmas Market plus about 20 different Christmas gift and decorations stalls (more on these later).

Food and drink prices are quite expensive at Tokyo Christmas Market compared to say standard Japanese chain restaurants but to be fair, this is a given for most festivals and major events plus the 1,000 Yen advance entry ticket price is quite low – so just bring lots of money and eat, drink and be merry.

As an example, expect to pay between 700 and 900 Yen for festive hot chocolate with whipped cream, 700 Yen for a small mulled wine and about 1,600 Yen for a large German style beer.

There are a few cheaper food and drinks stalls the further you walk away from the live music and covered seating area.

Some of the food and drinks stalls at Tokyo Christmas Market 東京クリスマスマーケット include:

  • Raclette (melted cheese) grills
  • Filled bread with soup
  • German Frankfurter and sausage stalls
  • Stollen stalls (European Christmas desserts
  • Hot chocolate and mulled wine
  • There is even a Moet and Chandon stall selling bottles of Moet champagne at VERY expensive prices!

The market also has around a dozen or so VIP winter domes / igloos which you can reserve.

They are filled with comfy furniture, tables and winter wraps and rugs and likely make for a very cosy Christmas evening – although they are transparent so everyone can see in!

Gift stalls at Tokyo Christmas Market

The best bit of Tokyo Christmas Market for us was all the European style Christmas stalls that were themed like alpine chalets with the coolest Christmas decorations and displays on each roof – every stall was different and they looked amazing lit up at night.

Tokyo Christmas Market 2024 - Meiji Jingu Gaien gifts

There are usually around 20 or so Christmas gift shops at the Tokyo Christmas Market Meiji Jingu Gaien selling everything from Russian dolls to snow globes and skincare products. Other items included Steiff teddy bears, the Polar Bear gift shop and English teas.

Whilst not cheap, the quality of products seemed really good and it genuinely felt like the Christmas markets we’ve been to back home in Europe and the UK

Live Music / Entertainment

Finally, another festive offering as part of your Tokyo Christmas Market admission price and ticket – there is a live music stage next to the covered seating area that hosts bands and live singers every day up to and including Christmas Day 2026.

When we visited, we got to watch the main Christmas band Die Kirchdorfer play, a German band who also regularly play at the Tokyo Oktoberfest. We thought they were a bit average but most of the crowd seemed to like them (possibly ‘tolerate’ might be a better description).

The entertainment is fun (especially if you’ve been drinking strong German beers all day – a bit like some of the members of the above band!) and it makes for a fun Christmas activity and night out in Tokyo.

Other things to know about

  • There are plenty of toilet facilities onsite.
  • On our visit (the second day of opening), it was rainy and there was only one small area of covered seating – so dress appropriately and bring wet weather gear / umbrellas just in case
  • As it is located in a park, the ground when we visited was uneven and very wet in places – so be prepared to get your shoes / trainers messy; definitely don’t wear high heels!
  • Remember to book your tickets in advance here to get a discount – e.g. 1,000 Yen in advance on weekdays as opposed to 1,500 Yen on the door weekdays.
