Yokohama Cup Noodles opening hours
The Cup Noodles museum in Yokohama is open Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesdays) from 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm.
There is so much to do in the Cup Noodles museum that we highly recommend allowing at least two to three hours for a visit, especially if you want to design your own cup noodle at the My CUPNOODLES Factory.

Arriving at the museum
The Cup Noodles Museum opens at 10am, 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) and as it is one of the most popular attractions in Yokohama, there can be big queues, especially during weekends and school holidays.

Once you arrive at the museum, head straight to the ticket desk to buy your 500 Yen entry ticket – we would also highly recommend booking your My CUPNOODLES Factory entry slot as soon as you arrive as these all book up VERY quickly.
On our visit, we arrived minutes after opening at 10am and booked onto the 10.30am slot. By early to mid afternoon you may find all the slots are fully booked.

Don’t forget to also check the super cute window display / diorama outside the cup noodle gift-shop, an interactive fun look at how they make the noodles and fun for kids of all ages to watch.
Called the Marble Coaster, over 4000 glass marbles follow a virtual noodle factory conveyor belt.

You can also pose with a huge cup of noodles in the reception area plus if you arrive early or are waiting for a timed admission slot, be sure to also browse the Cup Noodles Museum gift shop.
You can visit the gift shop for free if you don’t want to pay to go into the museum (or you want to buy extra goodies after a previous visit – we can relate to this!).

Nissin Noodle Museum Gift Shop
As you’d expect from such an interactive and fun museum, the Cup Noodles Museum gift shop is such fun and has oodles of noodle themed gifts, including super cute stationery and miniature cup noodle key-chains.
We were particularly taken by the cup noodle pot shaped erasers (we bought several as souvenirs.

In the Cup Noodles Museum gift-shop, you’ll also see lots of cute chicken merchandise – this is the Nissin cup noodle ramen mascot, Hiyoko-chan which features on the packaging.
Other unusual and interesting gifts include cup noodle party crackers, cup noodle fridge magnets and the Takara Tomy Tomica Dream Cup Noodles Toy Car (we bought this too!).

Things to do at the Nissin Noodle Museum
There are five floors of fun exhibits in the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama, many of which are immersive and interactive like the MyCupNoodles Factory and the My Chicken Ramen Workshop.
Some of the best things to do and activities at the Cup Noodle Museum include:
Instant Noodles History Cube / Nissin Noodle Museum of Brands
One of the first sections you’ll see is a huge room of cup noodles from the past 70 years.
Momofuku Ando established Nissin Foods and in the late 1950s, Momofuku created Chicken Ramen, the world’s first instant ramen noodles.

Later in the early 1970s, he invented Noodle Cup, the world’s first instant ramen served in a cup. This room shows how the cups and designs have changed over the years.

The exhibit has thousands of cup noodles laid out and is a wonderful way to see how the cup noodles have changed over years (plus learn about all the various brands like UFO noodles).

My CUPNOODLES Factory / Make Your Own Cup Noodle
For us, this was the best activity and thing to do in the whole of the Cup Noodles Museum.
For just 500 Yen, you get to design and colour in your very own cup noodle then decide what flavourings / proteins to put inside before taking it home as a cool souvenir (or to just heat and eat at a later date).
Learn more about the step-by-step My CUPNOODLES Factory process later in this article…

3D Illusion / Trick Art Area and Momofuku’s Work Shed
There are several other smaller scale attractions in the museum like a trick art / 3D room that plays tricks with perspective (a bit naff to be honest).
You can also see a recreation of cup noodle founder Momofuku’s Work Shed, where Chicken Ramen, the world’s first instant ramen, was invented in the 1950s.

Noodles Bazaar International Food Court / World Noodles Road
After all that ‘hard work’ designing your own cup noodles, treat yourself to some instant noodles in the themed instant noodle food-court, Noodles Bazaar / World Noodles Road.

Like the famous Silk Road, this is a Noodles Road that celebrates noodle creations from all over the world in cute themed food hall with several food stalls selling international food dishes.

There are 8 different international noodle style dishes to try from Thailand Tom Yum Goong Noodles to Malaysian Laksa Noodles or Vietnamese Pho (all using Nissin Cup Noodles).
A big bowl of noodles costs 500 Yen whilst half portions cost 250 Yen. Desserts are available too like Annin Tofu from China, shaved ice or mango pudding from Thailand.

MY Chicken Ramen Factory
Another interactive class and wonderful workshop, at the My Chicken Ramen Factory, you can make your own instant chicken noodles and take them away to enjoy at a later date.

Get to grips with the whole manufacturing process from kneading noodles to flash frying them – give it a go and don’t be ‘chicken’.
Reservations can be made three months in advance prior to the day you wish to attend online here >
My Chicken Ramen Factory costs 1,000 Yen per adult and 600 Yen per child / student as of early 2024 – the experience lasts 90 minutes.

My CUPNOODLES Factory / Designing Your Own Cup Noodle – The Best Bit!
Whilst wandering around the streets of Yokohama, you’ll invariably see lots of families wandering around with inflated transparent bags containing a colourful Nissan noodle cup inside.
This is a sure sign they’ve just come from the museum having designed their own noodle cup…the ultimate souvenir!

Costing just 500 Yen per person, the My CUPNOODLES Factory experience is worth the admission price alone – imagine making your own cup noodle creation with your favourite ingredients and your own packaging design!
Highly popular, the first step to designing your own cup noodle is to book onto a timed session when you arrive.

Once your time has arrived, head on over to the My CUPNOODLES Factory and purchase your empty noodle cup from a vending machine (Japan is BIG on vending machines).

Find a free table and start designing and drawing on your noodle cup. Each table is equipped with lots of colouring pens so you can go crazy with your colours and designs – we even incorporated Donpen the Don Quijote penguin into ours.

Once you are happy with your design, place your cup over the dry instant noodles then head over to the counters to choose your favourite flavours and toppings.
Choose one out of four soup flavors and four out of 12 proteins / toppings – flavours include Hiyoko-chan fish cake (so cute!), cheese, kimchi, crab and garlic chips.
With all the variations, there are over 5,000 different combinations possible. Vegetarian options are available.

After your very own cup noodle is filled full of your favourite flavours, the cup is vacuum sealed.

Then head on over to one of the most fun elements – wrapping up your cup in an inflatable bag to keep it secure. You use air pumps to blow air into the bag which helps protect your instant noodle creation.

Attach the carrying straps and then take home or back to your hotel to enjoy later.
You’ll see literally dozens of people / tourists on the streets of Yokohama every day lovingly carrying their My CUPNOODLES Factory creation. But obviously their cup noodle design won’t be as good as yours…

Nissin Cup Noodles Museum – is it worth it?
Yes, the Cup Noodles Museum is easily one of the best and most fun things to do in Yokohama.
From start to finish, the museum is so well designed and has a lot of interactive elements like making your own instant noodle cup or chicken ramen, or even deciding which noodles to try in the noodles bazaar workshop.

Kids will love the Yokohama Cup Noodles Museum but adults will be equally enthralled by the experience – from the gift shop to the history of noodles, there is a lot to enjoy with some tasty treats too.
And at only 500 Yen per adult (and free for children), the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama is one of the best value attractions in Japan.
There is also a second Cup Noodles Museum and Factory located in Osaka.

The other Yokohama Noodle Museum – Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum in Yokohama
If you love your noodles (who doesn’t eh), also make time to visit Yokohama’s other famous noodle museum – the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum.
We did both the Cup Noodles Museum and Ramen Museum in Yokohama and both offer delicious tasting menus and immersive sets.

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum celebrates various ramen types and noodles from all over Japan and has a small museum.
However the best bit is the centre-piece food court and historic alley ways where you’ll find several ramen shops each selling different ramen from various Japanese prefectures and districts.

The streets are incredible with so much detail including retro shops you can visit plus a vintage ice-cream parlour.
The World’s first Ramen Museum, Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum costs 450 Yen admission per adult and 100 Yen children (6 to 18 years) and seniors – the ramen dishes in the food court cost extra.
