Christmas in Osaka is a magical time of year with marvelous mall displays – but the highlights of the Osaka Christmas calendar have to be the Osaka Christmas Market at Tennoji Park plus the Umeda Sky Building Christmas Market.

We visited both Osaka Christmas Markets last year and by far the biggest and the best has to be the one in Tennoji Park near Shinsekai, which includes Osaka’s Christmas ice-skating rink.
From times to Christmas trees, food prices to photos, here is our lowdown on Osaka’s Christmas Markets in 2025.
This article was originally published on 3 December 2024.

Let’s start with the biggest Osaka Christmas activity, the Osaka Christmas Market in Tenshiba District…
1. Osaka Christmas Market & Ice Skating at Tennoji Park
28 November 2025 to 25 December 2025
Osaka Christmas Market 2025 is free admission – no advance tickets are required but some activities (like ice-skating) cost extra.
Moving to Tennoji Park in 2024, Osaka Christmas Market will be back bigger and better than ever – we loved this Christmas market as it was busy with lots of choice but most importantly, the location was great with lots of room for outdoor eating, dogs in prams and family fun.

It also means you get the city plus Tsutenkaku Tower as a colorful backdrop.
There are several photo spots dotted around Osaka Christmas Market – the most popular was a beautiful white doorway with a Christmas wreath and a snowy scene. The queue to take pictures here was probably about 20 deep when we looked.

Atmosphere at Osaka Christmas Market at Tennoji Park
The centerpiece was three huge sparkling Christmas trees which looked epic against the Osaka city skyscraper backdrop.
Even though there were thousands of market visitors on the Sunday night we visited, the park is big enough to cope with the deluge of Christmas revellers and it made for a great atmosphere.

Osaka Christmas Market also offered several Christmas workshops like making your own snow globe or Christmas candle, available at additional cost.
Treat yourself to an Osaka Christmas Market mug, which saves you 100 Yen off every hot drink purchase and doubles as a nice souvenir to take home.

Food, drink and shopping
There will be around 40 different stalls and Christmas gift kiosks at this year’s 2025 Osaka Christmas market, made to look at European style alpine ski huts.
We’d estimate there are just over 20 food and drink vendors and the rest were selling Christmas crafts and souvenirs.

Food available at the Osaka Christmas Market included sausages (German style frankfurters), churros, mussels, soup and bread, stew, pretzels and chicken legs – all very hearty fare. Be sure to arrive hungry as there is lots of food.

Drink and beer prices at Osaka Christmas Market are quite high compared to normal Japan chain restaurants and bars.
German lager costs around 1,300 Yen for a 400ml / medium beer; hot mulled wine in 2024 costs 800 Yen.

Ice Skating
There is a small ice skating rink at Osaka Christmas Market which has real ice – it is popular with families and costs 1,900 Yen per adult and 1,500 Yen per child for skating and skate rental.
Bring your own ice-skates to save 400 Yen. Children’s skating aids are also available to hire.

From 28 November until Wednesday 25 December (Christmas Day), the Osaka Christmas Market 2025 is free to visit and open from 11am to 9pm daily (last orders at 8.30pm).

2. Umeda Osaka Christmas Market 2025
14 November 2025 until 25 December 2025 (TBC)
The second Osaka Christmas Market that we visited last year was located directly beneath the Umeda Sky Building.
A lot smaller than the other main Osaka Christmas Market, Christmas at Umeda Sky Building is free admission and has around 15 food and drink stalls plus several Christmas gift and craft kiosks.

The centerpiece to the Umeda Christmas market celebrations in 2025 is a colossal Christmas tree that sits directly below the sky building on the plaza outside.
It has over 130,000 LEDs and is said to be the largest project mapping Christmas tree in Japan! It doesn’t compare to the free projection mapping show at Tokyo Metropolitan Government building which is amazing.

It lights up daily from noon until 11pm and there is a sound and light show based around the tree that plays regularly every evening.
There are several outdoor seatings to enjoy your Christmas fare plus many enjoy eating their food on the steps directly below the Christmas tree.

Food and drink
There are around 15 or so Christmas food and drinks stalls below Umeda Sky Building at their Christmas market selling foods like turkey legs, waffle chips, sausages, roast pork steaks, meat pies, French onion soup and more.

We also spotted a couple of stalls selling hot beer – like hot cherry beer. So have a very ‘Merry’ Christmas at Umeda Sky Building drinking hot or cold beer, mulled wine or just enjoy hot chocolate.
A special Cantonese style Christmas Dinner also available to enjoy (at a premium price) on the 39th floor of the Umeda Sky Building at Sankyu.
