Booking hotels near Tokyo Station โ€“ top tips

Once you are ready to start booking your Tokyo hotel(s), there are a few general rules and tips:

  • Peak season in Japan is generally classed as the summer months but youโ€™ll also find room rates are likely higher during public holidays, golden week (in May) and cherry blossom season (usually in March / April).
  • We find agoda.com and booking.com have the best room rates for Tokyo / Ginza hotels Tokyo.
  • Online rates for Tokyo Station hotels are generally better than booking in person. We even had a situation where we tried to extend a Tokyo hotel booking at reception and the staff kindly informed us we should book it on Agoda instead as it would be cheaper!
  • If possible, book your Tokyo Station hotel rooms several months in advance as the room rates tend to increase in the months before you arrive โ€“ also consider making use of the โ€˜cancellableโ€™ room options that some hotel booking sites have like Agoda.
  • We watch room rate prices in Tokyo a lot and they generally rise the closer you get to arrival โ€“ some go up a lot in price, especially AsakusaShibuya and Shinjuku. So book well in advance if you can.

High end and luxury Tokyo Station hotels ($$$)

The Tokyo Station Hotel (5*)

Yes, there is actually a 5 star hotel located in the station itself, managed by JR (Japan Railways) – it was reopened in 2012 after extensive remodelling and major reworks.

Beautifully ornate and European in style, this gorgeous red brick hotel blends seamlessly with the station and has seven bars, a spa and wellness center.

The breakfast bar is something to behold with over 100 dishes and sides, a mix of Western and Japanese food.

This Tokyo Station hotel is all about the location and compared to the huge skyscraper hotels, feels a little more boutique and bijou. It is based in a 3 storey building connected to the Marunouchi side of Tokyo station and within walking distance of Nihonbashi, Ginza and the imperial Palace.

Hostels

Given how expensive the area is, there arenโ€™t any truly budget hostels near Tokyo Station but we have one budget dorm option:

Hostel Den (1*)

Just over a 20 minute walk from Tokyo Station, Hostel Den is a 2-minute walk from Kodenma-cho station.

This is a Tokyo Station hostel with dorm beds in rooms that share 4 to 10. Single sex and mixed dorms available – all dorm rooms have a shared bathroom.
