2. Warner Bros The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo

Tokyo’s Warner Bros Studio tour recently opened in the summer of 2023 and is one of Tokyo’s hottest immersive tickets and film based attractions, going behind the scenes with ‘The Making of Harry Potter’.

The largest indoor Harry Potter visitor attraction in the world and Asia’s first official Warner Bros Studio Tour, immerse yourself in the magical world of Harry Potter – board the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9 ¾ and walk through the Forbidden Forest.

You can get up close to Diagon Alley and take a glimpse at the Great Hall (or even cast some spells in the Ministry of Magic) – you can also see memorabilia, props and costumes from the Harry Potter movies.

Fun for all ages, the Making of Harry Potter Tokyo Studio Tour is the ultimate experience for Harry Potter fans.

Over 200,000 people have already booked the Warner Bros Making of Harry Potter through Klook so make sure you also get your ticket here >

3. Harry Potter Plaza

Back to Asakusa for the Harry Potter plaza, a free to visit outdoor square that has several Harry Potter selfie spots including a photo spot with Hedwig the Owl.

When we last went, we spotted a few young Japanese couples all dressed up in their finest Harry Potter clothes (possibly bought from the gift shop), posing like hardcore Harry Potter pros with some Platform 9 ¾ suitcases – it was so cute!

Harry Potter Plaza is open 24 hours a day and free to visit.

4. Watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

After a record-breaking opening in London’s West-End in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been wowing audiences in Tokyo since summer 2022, performing 6 days a week at the TBS Akasaka ACT Theatre.

Watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Tokyo

It is  the second non-English production of the play, and the first staging in Asia, with an all-Japanese cast  – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set almost 20 years after the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

It is a splendid stage production with incredible special effects but quite long – the play runs for over 3 hours including a small break in the middle – you can also buy souvenirs and a theater programme in the gift shop here.

Please note the play is performed in Japanese but subtitle devices (like smartphones) are available.

5. Harry Potter Cafe

The only official Harry Potter cafe in Tokyo, this wizarding world of wonderful food and themed Harry Potter plates is the ultimate ‘fantasy’ dining experience (although we can’t quite believe they don’t do Butterbeer).

An Instagrammer’s dream, the food and drink styling is amazing (although a lot of reviews online say the taste is so-so). The interiors are OK with a few little flourishes like pictures on the walls, wands on the ceiling but nothing special.

Some of the more magical themed dishes include:

  • Hogwarts Steak Pie – 1,320 Yen
  • Hufflepuff Toasties – 1,760 Yen
  • Owl Post Sunday Roast – 2,090 Yen

the Harry Potter Tokyo Cafe dish that EVERYONE talks about is the Hedwig owl dessert for 1,540 Yen – where Hedwig is made out of cream & strawberries sitting on a tiramisu tree.

Reservations to the Harry Potter Cafe  in Tokyo are highly recommended as it can be hard to get a seat.

6. Wizarding Gate & Time-Turner sculpture

Located in the underpass that exits from Asakusa Station and exits by Akasaka ACT Theater, the best way to arrive at Tokyo Harry Potter Plaza is via the Harry Potter Staircase (officially known as the Harry Potter Tokyo Wizarding Gate).

It features over 40 portraits on the walls, a red carpet (not real) and almost feels like walking the halls of Hogwarts – also keep an eye out for a sneaky silhouette of Dobby, the Harry Potter house-elf.

The centerpiece is the fantastic Time-Turner sculpture, recreated from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – the Wizarding Gate is free to visit.

7. Train Stations

Who needs Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross when you have two Harry Potter train stations in Tokyo?

The best way to visit The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour, take the themed trains from Ikebukuro and back from SeibuToshimaen Station, the station closest to the Warner Bros Studio tour.

The train stations have Harry Potter theming and little magical touches like a British red telephone box where you can listen to mystic messages or see.

8. Harry Potter Tokyo Christmas Tree

We were lucky enough to be in Tokyo at Christmas so we got a glimpse of the Harry Potter Christmas tree, which takes pride of place in the Harry Potter Plaza every winter.

Harry Potter Tokyo Christmas Tree

Around 20 feet tall and lit with hundreds of LEDs and fairylights, it is so pretty that it would even melt Lord Voldemort’s heart (probably).

The Tokyo Harry Potter themed Christmas tree has a huge clock and is a colorful Christmas promo for Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
