Arriving at Miyashita Park
Like no other Tokyo mall we’ve encountered, Miyashita Park is a stone’s throw away from all the hustle and bustle of Shibuya’s scramble crossing and Shibuya Center Gai.
It is also a good place to stop in and do some retail therapy or grab a coffee if you are walking between Shibuya and Harajuku – and be sure to check out Takeshita Street, Tokyo’s kawaii capital.

Architecturally, the mall and Shibuya Yokocho beneath look very unusual (almost like an entrance to a museum or concert hall) and this might be because it used to be an old park and terminal that is beside the Yamanote and Saikyō railway lines.
After becoming Tokyo’s original rooftop park in the 1960s, the area fell slowly into disrepute in later years and the dilapidated area and concrete park closed in 2017.

It was transformed into the new Miyashita Park mall and restaurant complex in the summer of 2020 with over 100 shops, cafes and restaurants.
Best of all, the ‘rooftop park’ element still remains, with a gorgeous green space and free sports facilities and a playground on the upper levels.

Shopping at Miyashita Park Rayard / Directory
From luxury fashion to cute Kawaii shops or anime stores, there is much shopping to enjoy at Miyashita Park. As well as around 100 permanent shops, there are often pop-up stores so you never know what to expect.
There is something to suit all tastes and budgets here, from skateboarding equipment to Studio Ghibli, haute couture handbags to Jirai Kei galore!
Some of the shops at Miyashita Park Reyard include
- Instant Shibuya Skateboards (and you can even use the skateboard park in the roof garden above).

- GBL – A Studio Ghibli store for adults, selling fashion, jackets, skateboards and more – check out our top Studio Ghibli things to do in Tokyo here >

- Face Records – for fantastic plastic, this is your ‘vinyl destination’ in Tokyo

- Dayz – a super cool sneaker and clothing store in Miyashita Park that often has big queues for the latest Nike releases

- Louis Vuitton (the world’s first Louis Vuitton male store)
- Shibuya Souvenir Store – lots of cute cartoon characters and awesome anime to be enjoyed here including Tokyo Crown Cat – plus you can buy traditional Tokyo gifts and edible snacks to enjoy or take home.

Miyashita Park Food Courts, Restaurants and Cafes
Sandwiched between all the shops and pop-up shops, you’ll find various restaurants, bars, diners and dedicated food courts around the site (there are even some alfresco cafes in the rooftop park with outdoor seating).

You’ll find all cuisines from international fare like ‘eggslut’ to local favourites like Miyashita Cafe and soft-serve ice cream.

Miyashita Park Roof Garden
For the best rooftop view of Shibuya away from the Shibuya scramble crossing craziness, head on up to the top floor of Miyashita Park.

Even if you don’t want to shop until you drop, the Miyashita Rooftop Park is a nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of Shibuya, and is a popular place with families with playgrounds for small children and a skateboard park for teens, plus a small climbing wall.
It is popular with adults in the evening, either recreationally (there is even a beach volleyball court complete with sand) or to enjoy brews with views and sup coffee looking out over Shibuya.

One of our own personal highlights was the huge Doraemon play area and colossal figure to pose with – although it is nothing on the scale of the Doraemon Future Department store in Odaiba, Japan’s only official Doraemon shop.

Plan My Japan tip – if you are on your way to Miyashita Park from Shibuya station, be sure to make the short 1 min diversion to Shibuya’s 3D Billboards. Two of Tokyo’s most famous 3D billboards can be found in Shibuya – find out more here >

Shibuya Yokocho
The best way to describe Shibuya Yokocho? Yum, yum yum – or even ‘Kanpai!’.
An epic epicurean evening experience (try saying that after several sakes), Shibuya Yokocho is an awesome alfresco alleyway of traditional izakaya bars and Japanese restaurants, recreated by a modern building (so it is all ‘fake’ old).

It is located in Rayard Miyashita Park directly below the shopping mall and on the sidewalk / pavement heading from Shibuya to Harajuku.
A short walk from Shibuya Station, all of the bars and outdoor chairs and tables in close proximity make for an atmospheric night out – you can even try the famous sumo wrestling stew, Chanko Nabe.

Inside, gaze at vintage interiors lit by lanterns and retro stalls like candy shops or an old bath house. Shibuya Yokocho is sublime for a post-sunset session of sake and skewers; you’re welcome!
This is also a great place to ‘reward’ yourself with some nice Japanese food and drink after all that shopping in the mall upstairs.
